    @VasDrafts check that the wires coming out of each thermocouple are isolated from the casing of the thermocouple, and therefore isolated from whatever metal parts the thermocouples are attached to. The MAX31856 requires the thermocouple connections to be isolated; but some thermocouples don't isolate the junction from the casing.

    Thanks so much for your replies!

    I hadn’t grounded the extruder motor casing or hotends yet, seems I missed that detail when I first built the printer. Looking back, it totally makes sense to ground those parts 😅. It does make me wonder what’s changed recently that’s now causing ESD issues, when everything was fine before.

    For now, I’ve attached a grounding wire to one of the casing screws on the back of the extruder stepper motor. I haven’t had time yet to ground the hotend properly in a non-janky way, so I will do that later (or when the issue remains I guess)

    I’ll be printing the same model a few more times, so I’ll see if grounding just the stepper resolves the issue and report back.

    @dc42 Thanks. I think I may just use the existing duet rotating magnet filament monitor that I used with the previous extruder. This is located off the print head before the ptfe tube that feeds the extruder, it's simple to run the wire along with the power/can cable to the roto toolboard and I wouldn't have to worry about routing/securing the ffc cable near the filament feed. I don't think the integrated duet roto filament monitor offers any advantage over the original rotating magnet filament monitor, I don't have a use for the feature button.

    I'm back with robotics. My partner passed away, I had to mourn, I have a new partner now since a few months, she will be on vacancy alone mid to end may. So this will be the time frame when I will work on robot kinematics again, based on RRF 3.6.

    I will implement an idea I had last year and started implementing some time ago. Robotics solutions are be very different for forward and inverse kinematics. So I thought about a generic approach:

    a forward chain to combine different drive movements into one movement chain, with one or multiple solutions a backward (inverse) chain with the result of none to multiple solutions forward and backward chains are stored in arrays which can be set by parameters with M669. Kinematic code will simply process the chains to find the chain solutions, the user can think it through mathematically and set the parameters or he can use the to-be-programmed Qt based program to set solutions or simulate them and compare to measurements of the prototype the chain elements are code fragements to implement mathematical solutions. The mathematicsal solutions can be augmented in future releases when necessary

    That's my plan.

    @Macwolf ok then. so you just need to connect the "L" connection to the duet. You will need to connect a ground connection, like on PSU type 2, to your power supply powering your duet

    @rodneysramosj Is the X endstop a max endstop or min endstop? Currently your G1 H1 X... homing moves are positive, so should be moving to the right, towards a max endstop. If this is wrong, you probably need to check the direction the motors are moving is correct, see https://docs.duet3d.com/en/How_to_guides/Commissioning#h-10-check-stepper-motors

    Your printer origin X0 Y0 Z0 should be in the front left corner. Positive X moves should move the nozzle to the right, positive Y moves should move the nozzle towards the back.

    @Fuzionline the reason for this is that when simulating on a Scara or other machine with nonlinear kinematics, RRF doesn't segment the moves and simulate the segments, but instead simulates the entire move. We tried simulating individual segments but found it was too slow. Unfortunately there are some situations in which out-of-bounds errors are only detected at the segment level; for example, if a move has reachable start and end coordinates but would bring the head too close to the proximal axis on the way between them.

    @dc42 - My home machine has a duet3 6HC board and is running RRF 3.6.0-rc.2 I made a quick test macros to help me understand the J2 option. I think I found a documentation error on the M291 Page.

    In my testing, not using S4 without the J2 option is blocking, and any T parameter is ignored. If I use this method, I need to name a button "Cancel", then evaluate the input variable to see if the cancel button was pressed.

    With the J2 parameter, I can set a timeout. I evaluate the Result variable to see if either the cancel button was pressed or a timeout occurred.

    With no T parameter the message is blocking

    According to my reading of the M291 Doc page description of the T parameter "A zero or negative value means that the message does not time out (it may still be cancelled by the user if it has a Cancel button)"

    When I tested this, T0 behaves as expected (blocking) but with a negative value for T, I get an error message.

    @oliof @gloomyandy After discussing this with @dc42, I think I've misunderstood how extruder acceleration is limited under PA. The jerk / PA limit on acceleration is applied automatically by RRF, so the user doesn't need to set jerk or acceleration manually to take account of PA. The user sets extruder speed, jerk and acceleration at whatever the extruder can achieve in extruder-only moves (like retraction). The user only needs to know that acceleration is limited when PA is applied, to jerk / PA, so may have consequences such as slowing down or stuttering during printing moves, or skipping steps. This, at least, makes the documentation simpler! Which I'll now update, again...

    @o_lampe Thanks - yes some of the tools did start priming a bit early - I need to tweak my timing algorithm - its based on calculating the required delay within the 20 seconds preheat window, then just kicking off reheat and then prime as soon as heat up is complete. I should delay prime until the last few seconds. - also the 20 seconds pre-heat the slicer sends isn't always completely accurate - might just be a bug, or might be that I haven't got the printer completely configured exactly as its defined in the slicer in terms of speeds and accelerations.

    I was really pleased though at how quick the tool changes are coming - will be even more apparent when I do prints with less of some of the colours per layer.

    I have considered investigating simulations - but I might just try making the algorithm monitor itself and auto adjust - at least when it repeats the same print.

    Yes I can't parallel prime when printing between the heads on the same gantry - and I do need to sort out some of the details - like lifting and lowering.

    I will hopefully stay at this phase for a few months to get the parallel printing working really well, - especially with a combination of Independent and IDEX -

    The beg slinger approach I am not sure about - it might be a step backwards - and does bring space issues - so might consider extending the whole frame - at least in the Y direction.

    Ok - that's good news but a mystery as to why it did not work the first time, as I assume you, effectively, just reinstalled from github.

    If you had used the version I posted yesterday - there would have been a duetBackup ONLY log created (along with additional debug information) that you could access directly using the DWC UI.

    The version that I sent to you yesterday will be the version posted in github soon. I do not use github for "in progress" builds - just for version bumps, once they are tested.

    While I have tested on my 3.6 beta build - It would be very helpful if you could validate it against your 3.5 build.

    Can you do that for me? I.e. Try the version I posted yesterday.

    P.S. The permissions dsf:dsf from the ls -l look correct - so there may have been some other issue.

    M591 D0 Duet3D Roto magnetic filament monitor, enabled always, 25.20mm/rev, allow 10% to 190%, check printing moves every 2.0mm, agc 45, raw angle 354, no calibration data

    Also you can use the "S" parameter in M591 to monitor movement all the time if you prefer:

    Sn 0 = disable filament monitoring (default), 1 = enable filament monitoring when printing from SD card, 2 = enable filament monitoring all the time (S2 is supported RRF 3.5.0 and later ). Filament monitors accumulate calibration data (where applicable) even when filament monitoring is disabled

    I tested and had no consistent results with a structured PEI coated steel sheet. Moving the head just 1or 2mm sideways produced deviations of up to 0.2mm in either direction. I am back to BL-Touch with more consistent overall results whereas the IR-probe was more consistent on the same spot.

    Hello, thank you for sharing this. I have a question — I own a ToolChanger controlled by a Duet 3 MB6HC board, and there are 4 tools installed. Tool “T4” is a Smart Orbiter V3.0, which is connected to a ToolBoard 1LC V1.3. I was wondering whether it is possible to use the functionalities of the Smart Orbiter V3.0 by connecting them directly to the ToolBoard 1LC V1.3. Thank you in advance for your reply, it would be a great help.

    @Rat-Rig-CS thanks for your response and for how this had been handled.

    From our side part of the issue was between how warranty issues are handled when a product is supplied from a reseller, vs a board supplied with a complete product (be it a kit or an assembled machine):

    For a reseller supplied product, referral to the forum is the correct procedure. For a product incorporated in kit or complete machine we expect the manufacturer to handle the warranty process (and communicate with us directly, if there is a fault with the board).

    The basic idea being a machine sold as a complete product, which the manufacturer has control over would not be expected to have configuration or wiring issues that we want to debug here on the forum before confirming a hardware fault.

    We will update our T&Cs to make this clearer.

    For anybody looking in the future, that did not in fact work. I went all the way up to M570 H0 P60 T40 and still had spurious heater faults. https://github.com/Duet3D/Duet3Expansion/pull/23 seems to have really fixed it, without needing to change M570 from the defaults at all.

    @oozeBot Thanks for pointing it out, I just removed the section about gpiochip4. The automatic change in config.json to gpiochip4 was removed last year and that change is already in the latest DuetPi version, so no further changes should be needed at this point if the stock image is used.

    Yes you could use servos with integrated drivers and then use a 6XD to drive those 4 motors

    Good evening,

    Would it be possible to operate an extruder in closed loop mode?

    For instance with:

    Duet3D magnetic encoder on the extruder's stepper (commutation) Duet3D magnetic filament monitor near the hotend (close the loop) Duet3D 1HCL

    If this would be possible, it could improve:

    Estep calibration, material independent Retraction Backlash in the bowden tube VFA due to excentric hobs VFA due to speed variations caused by poorly meshed (dual) extruder gears Possibly pressure advance Non linear extrusion Extruder feed forward

    If you go to the General section of the DWC there are a number of options/values that can be set/changed.

    So I was thinking that would be a place to have an "on/off" option that would change the behavior.

    As to M568 - I am using that.

    Here is a the relevant code from one of the filament config files:
